Geomembrane thickness should not be selected from pond area alone. The liner must be reviewed against the prepared substrate, water depth, side slopes, expected exposure, installation method and the standard required by the buyer or project designer.
Start with the pond conditions
Provide the pond length, width, depth and slope geometry. Also identify whether the liner will remain exposed, whether equipment may contact it and whether a protective geotextile is required over a rough or potentially puncturing subgrade.
What changes the thickness decision?
- Subgrade: sharp stones, settlement and irregular surfaces increase the need for preparation and protection.
- Depth and slopes: geometry affects stresses, anchorage and panel layout.
- Exposure: uncovered liners require a grade suitable for the expected weather and service conditions.
- Installation: welding equipment, access and handling influence practical roll and panel planning.
- Specification: the project standard and required test values take priority over a generic thickness recommendation.
Current VABREN supply reference
The current smooth HDPE pond-liner supply range is 0.2–3.0 mm thick, 1–8 m wide and 50–100 m long. These are supply references rather than a universal design recommendation. Final resin grade, dimensions, test requirements and documentation are confirmed for the order.
Information to send with an inquiry
Send a pond sketch or dimensions, selected or target thickness, total estimated area, destination and any welding, installation or documentation requirements. Quantity calculations should include the floor, side slopes, anchor allowance, overlaps and reasonable installation loss.
