COLD-CLIMATE LINING CASE

HDPE Geomembrane Lining for a Cold-Climate Project in Canada

Containment planning under low temperatures, snow cover and large exposed site conditions.

VABREN HDPE geomembrane lining at a cold-weather containment project in Canada
Project overview

Large-area containment under cold-weather conditions

This Canadian project used HDPE geomembrane across a large containment area. Low temperatures and snow cover required the material specification and installation plan to account for subgrade condition, membrane temperature, wind loading and suitable welding windows.

01

Continuous containment

The liner separates the contained medium from surrounding soil.

02

Cold-weather planning

Grade, thickness and stabilization are selected for the environmental exposure.

03

Controlled welding

Seam quality depends on dryness, membrane temperature and verified welding parameters.

Installation focus

Control the subgrade, membrane temperature and seams

Ice, sharp objects and standing water should be removed before deployment. Snow, frost and condensation can affect seam quality, while thermal movement, wind uplift, ballast and anchorage must be included in the installation plan.
